TNT is going after India in a big way

Poised to invest €100 million over the next five years, global mail, express and logistics operator TNT is launching domestic express services in India. The company claims it’s the first multinational brand in the country to offer international and domestic services using an integrated air and road network.

First steps have already been taken as Indian offices have been expanded from 17 to 50. The goal is to increase that number to 144 by the end of next year. Depot space, too, has grown from 80,000 square feet to more than 300,000 square feet.

On February 1, TNT began offering air network solutions. Part of its Phase 2 plans involve opening of road network services in mid-March 2006. “As the economy booms,” says Abhik Mitra, Managing Director – TNT India, “surface transport will turn out to be the real advantage. The TNT India road network will offer an attractively priced, fast and reliable mode of transport to customers. It will also be one of the most critical factors in establishing us as a clear leader in the integrated express distribution segment.”
